altThe House of Culture is dedicated to the preservation of historical and monumental events of Belize’s colonial history that occurred at the Government House.  The colonial character of the building has been preserved and its permanent collection includes period furniture and silver serving pieces used at banquets held by Governors.

Through art exhibits, cultural and historical displays, music concerts, available gallery space, meeting halls and an open-air theatre on its grounds, the House of Culture also seeks to revitalize, conserve and promote and promote cultural expressions that reflect the complex identity of the country’s diverse population.

altRecently, in dire need of repairs, the building was somewhat refurbished. It has had periodic renovations the most recent of which was in 2003, and according to the Belize Historical Society, the house has probably been completely rebuilt at least twice.
