Activities at Benque House of Culture
The activities of the Benque HOC focus on the following objectives:
- Revitalize, conserve and present to the public the principal cultural expressions that reflect the identity of Belize (through concerts, folkloric events, exhibitions, Posadas, Finados, support to local folkloric dance group – Ballet Folclorico de Benque Viejo)
- Promote by means of activities in the community – cultural attention to persons with physical disabilities (arts & crafts workshops)
- Develop cultural community activities at the HOC with children, youth, adults, senior citizens (lecture presentations, movies, exhibitions, celebration of cultural events like Posadas)
- Develop or network with schools, clubs, other associations to obtain best results in cultural developments in the community (have linked with Image Factory, Poustinia Foundation, Belize Archives, other NICH institutions, schools, etc.)
- Utilize artists in the community (these artists are utilized especially for the summer program in July and August) for plastic arts, performing arts, music, etc.)
- Gain the participation of the community in the program of activities and elevate the cultural level of the public (a case in point were the Centennial Celebrations and the Lecture Series which brings scholars in the scientific, historical and cultural fields to present)
- Activated the festivals scheduled. HOC Benque works closely with the cultural and religious calendar in the community,such as Holy Week, and Fiesta del Mount Carmel.
