Featured Publication: St. George's Caye-The Birthplace of a Nation
The Institute for
Social and Cultural Research/ NICH launched the educational booklet entitled- St.
George’s Caye:The Birthplace of a Nation in Belize City at Saint Catherine’s
Academy on the 6 September, 2010 at 10 a.m. The booklet focuses on the events leading up
to the battle of St. George’s Caye, the battle itself and the archaeology of
the location and features articles written by Dr. Jaime Awe, the Director of
the Institute of Archaeology; Dr. James Garber from Texas State University, San
Marcus; Mr. H. F. Humpheys, the principal of Stann Creek Ecumenical High School
and the Director of the Institute for Social and Cultural Research, Mr. Nigel
Encalada. The booklet is free to primary and secondary schools and
intended for country wide distribution to the schools as well as the general public further highlighting the significance
of this event, and the location to the history of Belize in its turbulent
growing stages of development.
