The  exhibit entitled, "A History of Slavery & Emancipation in Belize" highlights the slave occupations, treatment, trials and the apprenticeship period that occurred prior to the time when slavery was finally ended on 1st August, 1838. Also featured are images of text from the Emancipation Proclamation, Anti-slavery Literature as well as rarely publicized slave registers and the slave census.

The exhibit is accompanied by an educational booklet that is available to teachers who and serves as an excellent reference material in the classroom. The exhibit runs for the month of September at the House of Culture, Belize City and can be visited during normal working hours Mon-Fri. If you would like a copy of the booklet it can be downloaded from the our online library or at the ISCR office in Belmopan.
