The Laru Beya Boys will welcome Belizeans and visitors at the airport under a new program called 'Belizean Beats'.
Belizean Beats is a national music initiative supported by the National Institute of Culture and History and the Belize Tourism Board. Developed to support local musicians, Belizean Beats will feature these muscicians at venues throughout Belize including the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, country border points and at Belize Tourism Signature events. The program will provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for visitors to Belize and will promote Belizean cultural music while providing a source of income for Belizean musicians.
The first group to be featured under the music program is the 'Laru Beya Boys'. Laru Beya meaning beachside/seaside, has been around for more than 15 years. Originally led by the late Dox Thomas and now by Giovanni Chi, Laru Beya is focused on promoting and championing the ever growing essence of the true Belizean music. They will be performing for returning Belizeans and visitors at the Phillip S.W. Goldson International Airport on Wednesday and Fridays of each week.
NICH in collaboration with BTB hope to roll out such welcome at every point of entry in Belize within the next two years.
